For her significant contributions to the field of peace/political psychology through her deep involvement in Philippine liberation movements, during and after martial law. Her direct experiences in collective movements informed her writings and scholarship on peace/political psychology from a Global South perspective. During the country’s democratic transition, she brought peace/political psychology to strategic national institutions, leaders, and projects related to social peace in the Philippines. Dr. Montiel’s primary contribution to the global field of peace/political psychology lies in her excellent and original scholarship. She is a world-renowned and multi-awarded senior scholar on the psychology of peacebuilding and democratic transitions.
